Videos of Hawaiian Birds

Hawaiian birds are renowned for their diversity, vivid colors, and fascinating evolutionary history. The islands were once home to over 113 endemic species, including the famed Hawaiian honeycreepers, whose adaptive radiation produced more than 50 unique forms. However, since human arrival, habitat loss, introduced predators, and diseases like avian malaria have led to the extinction of many species; today, only a fraction remain, including endangered birds like the nene (Hawaiian goose) and rare forest dwellers such as the ʻapapane and ʻiʻiwi. Conservation efforts target preserving these unique avian treasures, many of which are restricted to high-elevation forests.
